10 Jan 2007 - January Newsletter
Dear Parents,
We hope that you have had a very happy, holy and restful Christmas, hope that our Muslim families enjoyed Eid and send you all our best wishes for a successful, peaceful and rewarding 2007.
WELL DONE, CONGRATULATIONS AND THANK YOU TO...
our children and staff who helped lead everyone's Advent journey and celebrations.
everyone for your support and best wishes over the Christmas period. With your help we have sent £950 worth of CAFOD?s World Gifts including clean water supplies, chickens, school starter kits and emergency shelters to communities all over the World
· Emily Brant in Year 6 who achieved full marks in the National Primary Maths Challenge and will go on to compete in the final stages of the challenge. Though we have had some very talented mathematicians over the years this is the first time anyone from our school has achieved full marks. Very well done indeed, Emily!
Scott Lewis who appeared on both the front and back pages of the Courier following his swimming successes. Well done!
· Mrs Moulding and Mr Rowland who send their thanks for the good wishes and leaving gifts they received.
REMINDERS....
· PARKING.We remind you that we need your support in helping to ease traffic and parking difficulties round school by being mindful of where to park and using other options where possible. Parents have permission to park in Calderdale College's car parks on an afternoon or in TESCOs car park at either end of the day. If you need to journey by car, we encourage you to use these options. We also remind you of our school bus which could be used by many more pupils - details of the route and times are available from the office.
PTA NEWS
We thank the PTA for their great work last term with the Race Night and Bag to School being great successes and the Roller Blading being enjoyed by the children.
You will be pleased to know that our Junior Non-Fiction Library was created last term with the financial support of the PTA and we thank you all for this great addition to our school.
As you know the PTA is a very significant organisation in our school and each year makes a major impact through its work. Other major contributions this year will help towards our Infant Playground upgrade and pay for many of the coaches on our school trips thereby reducing the costs of activities for all parents.
We urge your continued support and look forward to seeing you at any of our meetings. Our next meeting is on Thursday 11th January at 7.00 p.m. in School when we will be discussing the organisation of our forthcoming Valentine's Disco among other things.
COURSES, CONSULTATION AND OTHER INFORMATION FOR PARENTS
· Unfortunately due to the loss of their tutor the WEA have had to cancel the "Helping in Schools" course planned for Thursdays this term. They hope to re-schedule the course for later in the year.
· We enclose information from Miss Kathie Clarke, our RE Co-ordinator, on this term's RE topics and will shortly be sending home other curriculum information.
· This term is always a major information gathering term as part of our School Improvement cycle and any constructive views either in person or in writing on any aspect of school are very welcome and will always be respectfully considered. Views are particularly asked for before February Half-term.
· Statutory Information from the DfES outlining responsibilities under the Freedom of Information legislation is also attached to this letter.
BUILDING WORKS - PARENTAL SUPPORTWe thank families who have contributed to our building and upkeep work to date and remind you that we are asking each family to contribute a minimum of £30 a year (or £10 a term) towards our upkeep if possible. This year we are upgrading Infant Playground during the Summer Term and will be rewiring the Infants during the Summer Break. For these works we need a minimum of £6,000 of which we have so far raised about £1,500.Families are also encouraged to consider Gift Aiding their donations which increases the value of your contributions to us by almost a third again. Contact Pauline Bodkin at school for further details on how to do this.
FINALLY
Thank you for your ongoing support. Please note the dates in our Diary and try to join in and support our activities as much as you are able.
With all best wishes
