8th November 2006
Dear Parents,
To ensure that children are properly protected the Department for Health and Education and Skills have produced guidance for Managing Medicines in school. If you require school staff to give essential medication during the school day, please be aware that schools must comply with the Medicines in Schools Policy.
For pupils who require medicines for a short term basis a request form (3B) must be completed by parents or carers when the medication is handed over to school staff. Agreement is then sought from Headteacher. The request form is available from the office.
Essentially, all medication must be kept in the original container with a printed chemist label without alteration. No other medication will be accepted in school.
It is important to provide accurate information from your doctor or hospital, explaining the medical condition and care required and that this is updated if treatment changes. Changes to medication require a new request form, available from school.
Please inform school if your child requires longer term medication or health care. The School Nurse can support you in producing a care plan if required.
Yours sincerely
