Hello everyone at St. Mary's. I left in 1953 aged 15 and worked in a local engineering works. I was taught by a Miss Tighe who married rugby player Des Healey. Mr. Harrington was the headteacher at the time and he was a gentleman. Even after all these years I can still remember the names of many of my teachers of the time. I wish all pupils and staff the very best for the future. I have lived in Scotland for 45 years.

Hi everyone, it's nice to look at some St Mary's stuff instead of Crossley Heath stuff! Good luck Mr Copley, I'm sure you'll be missed by all.

I attended St Mary's between 1975 and '81 and always remember the school fondly. It was a great environment then and I am sure it still is to this day. We didn't have computers then which will be hard to believe for some younger readers!

Having just visited St Marys today to speak to the children in assembley, I would like to thank all the staff for such a warm welcome, and thank all the children for their help. I went past St Mary's school on Saturday - I realised that is exactly 30 years ago this week (Jan 79) that I started at St Mary's when my family moved to Halifax. We moved from Halifax in early 81 but have two years worth of very happy memories of a great school. It is clear from this web site the school has gone from strength to strenght.

As you all know I am raising money for Children In Need 2008. "Pudsey's Got Talent" Unfortunately all the posters have been taken down and which means you guys don’t know what’s happen.

The final will be taken place in the school hall on Friday. I need to check with Mr Copley as to what time we can have the Hall, and then I will put more poster around the school

It will cost 20p to watch the shows on Wednesday and then the finial on Friday.

Hi I am finally a year 6! I can't beleive it! I got my birthday present a week early! I got a cat from the RSPCA! She is called Blanche and was already named, she is mostly black and has a little white on her tummy, she is very cute and I love her. I am looking forward to being in Mr Hughes's class, my birthday is on the Friday we go back so I will sadly be at school, but the best part is I will be the eldest in the school!

Further to the continuing saga re St Catherine's. I agree completely that the school is being shamelessly manipulated for political ends, and I feel that faith schools' futures are very uncertain under the present regime. While belief is seen as an "unintellectual" pursuit, there will continue to be a snobbishness about faith and faith schools in so-called academic circles. Quite wrong, and in no way serving the best interests of schools or communities. I have no children at your school, but have grandchildren at another faith school nearby. These schools used to be the backbone of our children's moral and educational upbringing and it would be a poorer world if that were no longer the case.

As you correctly observe St. Catherine's is caught in a mix of local and national events. We support the school becoming a strong Catholic Secondary School for the Calderdale community but note that there is opposition to faith schools in general from a vocal and influential section of decision makers and media. Following the Catholic Church's successful opposition to attempts to further change its schools' Admissions arrangements in May 2006 we are now seeing a backlash in various Local Authorities where the Catholic Schools in temporary difficulties are being put under various pressures and threats.
It is a time to be vigilent and to stand up for a system that supports all round quality and social cohesion through the message and example of Christ.

Hi there! Me and my brother Chris are ex-pupils of St Marys. Chris left in 1997 and i (Nicholas) left in 2000. After leaving, chris went to Calder high school, and i went to Crossley Heath Grammer school. We've both now moved on to pursue our choice of career. Chris is now training to be an actor at Drama Centre in London, and i'm training to be a dancer at Rambert school, also in London.
It's great to be able to see lots of old friendly faces, we both have lots of great memories from our time at St Marys. We especially like the picture of Mrs Thomas on a quad bike!!

I have just completed a full term student placement for my child development studies. I thoroughly enjoyed working with the children and teachers in classes 1/2T and 2D. It's been 7 years since i left St. Mary's and i'm glad to see that not all of the faces have changed! This website is a new feature as well, good to see things are happening to keep the school more up-to-date with the changing world around it. ooh how i will miss St mary's. My brother Craig and i were taught by Mr O'connor and Mrs Garside back in the late 70's and loved every minute being there. So to see my daughter Saskia go through the school has been fantastic. I have and would in the future recommend the school it's a shame Saskia leaves this time for St Catherine's as i will miss all the interaction. I am told my services on the bottle stall at the garden party are still required even when she leaves so obviously i will !!! Thanks St Marys for the care and encouragement you have given saskia.

Hello, Happy New Year, sorry this comes late we had big problems with our computer, it had a cold or flu, or some sort of virus!
We moved to our new home back in July, we are all really happy here. During the summer we played in the pool and went for long bike rides in the country and the forest not far from our home. When we moved house that meant we had to move schools too! We were all very sad to leave our friends, but we have made lots of new friends and we are very popular.
We would like to say hello to all our friends in Year 3, and all the teachers too!

Hello Everyone,
Greetings from Canada, where the weather is starting to get mighty cold! We haven't had any real snow yet, just a few flurries, but that's a reminder that the big winter snows are just around the corner. Probably by Christmas we will be knee deep again!

It was great to see you all again when we called in during the summer. Emily really enjoyed catching up with her friends again. She says hello to everyone, and will be in touch before Christmas. She is doing well in school, and has lots of new friends. She has a male teacher this year, who is a bit cool and trendy, and plays a white guitar. He lets them choose the music for the lunch hour, everyone takes it in turns. She started Irish dancing lessons a few weeks ago and is doing well with them. She can do a Reel, and a Jig already, and is learning the Slip jig next.

That's all for now, maybe the Year 4 children could email us and let us know what they have been up to this year.

hi i'm karina hyams alot of kids will agree on this one. we spend 20 hours a week
in school and only 7 and half at play time a week. i think dinner playtime should be an hour and a half. 1st and 3rd playtime should be 45 minutes. i also think that

Interesting comments Karina, I do think you will find that school dinners are a lot more healthier now. You should suggest the dinners and eating places to the school council. Your calculations on the time spent in school have gone a little wrong. Come in to see me and I will help you to make the correct calculations, I think you will be surprised at just how many hours are spent at school and how much play time you get!

Hello! I have just been looking at the pictures from the Nativity - saw all my friends. It has cheered me up because I am off school today with a poorly stomach. We had a lovely Christmas - we played out in our PJs on Christmas morning with my Daddy's remote control car. It was a sunny day, you had snow did you go sledging? This is a lovely, user friendly place to be. I use the diary page to update my own diary and it's great to be able to check dates while I'm in work to make sure I haven't forgotten anything. I'd recommend all parents to have a browse.

Hi, Winmarleigh Hall was the best !!! All the nice food and every thing zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzip Wate a mo but it was brill ! The Zip Wire was the best . You had to climb up a 32 ft pole and jump of the edge and fly through the sky but still at no 1 its canoing it was brill you got really wet . Anyway enough of that the E.mail that i put on in 2003 was about the brill teachers that i had then and geuss what i'm saying the same thing about my teacher this year....MRS.MAYFIELD and anyone thats been in her class will know what i'm talking about.

I have been on work experience at St. Mary's (6-10th October 2003) for the week, and had the most enjoyable time working with all the children, from Reception through to Year Six in all apsects of their ICT work.

The end of two hours on a hot Thursday morning was no time for me to embark on a speech. Lest I should appear ungracious may I now thank you all for the gifts kindly given to me on my "departure". I have loved every minute of my involvement with St. Mary's. Nobody could fail to get satisfaction from working alongside professionals, and I use the word "professionals" in its widest sense to cover all those people in the school who work "professionally" regardless of qualifications, etc.

As the RE Report says I still get a "buzz" every time I enter the school and hopefully I always shall. If God spares me I look like having about another ten years on the school run.

My thanks to you all for letting me feel proud and humble at the same time.

I'm really sorry all of you couldn't have been involved in the week. There are some of you who were very disappointed. I hope you saw some of your ideas on the model though and can take some pride in being part of the overall project.
Thanks again for the very positive comments - you were all a joy to work with - we are so glad St Mary's was involved. You are truly a credit to the school and to Halifax . So were Mr O'Connor and Mrs Thomas!!! Yes, they really were!

G'day! Does anyone remember me? I taught at St Marys from1980 -1991 and then was transported to Australia for bad behaviour.
